Veronika Knytlová – Martina Sľúková THE PARTY Divadlo na cucky / SENior Theatre Group

An intimate report about the body, soul, breath and consciousness in the space…

    Ticket price:
An original project by members of the SENior theatre group opens up an array of questions: Can we understand the logic of our life story, the mutual links between events, its individual milestones, our own internal motivation, and therefore influence the flow of our existence? Can we give a complex report on ourselves as a body, soul and consciousness in space?
The Party production is a combination of the research of the artists Veronika Knytlová and Martina Slúková while creating their own production (the premiere is planned for December 2019) and at the same time active cooperation with the SENior course as such. The result is part of an ongoing process for the creative duo – while for the members of the theatre group – it is one of their two premieres.

The dancer Veronika Knytlová was one of the most noticeable faces of the VerTeDance dance group which she co-created in 2004 and which brought her recognition as well as several awards here and abroad. Their super successful productions Dance of Canis Lupus, What is the Weight of Your Desire? and Correction were featured at Flora. From the very beginning of her dance career, she has focused on dance education of children, adults, physically challenged people, amateurs and professionals. She is an external teacher at HAMU and DAMU Academy, she holds dance-movement courses within Archa.Lab, the art laboratory of Archa theatre.
The actress and screenwriter Martina Sľúková graduated from the Department of Alternative and Puppet Theatre at DAMU Academy, she co-founded Theatre Letí and guest appeared at Dejvické divadlo. She then graduated from screenwriting and dramaturgy at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava and since then, paradoxically, tends more towards documentary film. She writes short radio plays; together with Tereza Oľhová she published a book of stories and essays in emails Inak sa mám fajn (2015). She cooperated with the director Jiří Havelka on the projects The Mouse Paradise Experiment at the New Scene of the National Theatre and The Fellowship of the Owners (Theatre Critics Award 2018).

The SENior Theatre Group is a unique project of the Divadlo na cucky theatre. During the lessons or group meetings, senior citizens learn to work with their voice, develop their creativity, try out dance and movement training and delve into other fields of dramatic and literary art, such as storytelling, creative writing and so on. All these activities are organised with a theatre lecturer and also with externally cooperating artists. After graduating from the year-long course, some people continue in the SENior Studio, which is led by professional artists and focuses on original projects crowned by a public presentation.

Divadlo na cucky is an open space for culture on Dolní náměstí square in the centre of Olomouc. Apart from their own productions, the theatre focuses on presentation of visiting ensembles, creative workshops for all generations and the development of social dialogue through discussions and lectures. The cultural centre also consists of a café named Café na cucky and Gallery XY.
The theatre creates its own permanent repertoire focused on original productions and contemporary drama. The specific mix of staging teams during the creative process forms the unique poetics. The scene tends toward experimentation and a search for new means of communication; reflecting current social themes (nationalism, polarisation of society) and each year creates at least one production for teenagers. The direction of the theatre is shaped by the artistic director Silvia Vollmannová and the director of DW7 Jan Žůrek in close dialogue with guest directors (Michal Hába, Patrik Lančarič, Šimon Spišák).
