Due to injury of the choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński the workshop Dynamic Phrasing will led by the dancer of both festival performances – Daria Koval.

Dance and movement workshop with Maciej Kuźmiński – choreographer of the festival productions Every Minute Motherland and Resistance Movement.

    Ticket price: 490 / 290 Kč

An exclusive workshop with renowned Polish choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński, who will present his original movement and composition method Dynamic Phrasing. This comprehensive and dynamic training is designed for dancers of all performance levels, encouraging their creativity, versatility, self‑expression and mastery of various techniques within the training. It prides itself on a maximally supportive environment.

Polish choreographer Maciej Kuźmiński (1985), a graduate of the Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, teaches at the Faculty of Dance Theatre in Bytom (a branch of the AST National Academy of Theatre Arts in Kraków) and at the Belgrade Dance Institute. As a choreographer, he draws on his own movement method called Dynamic Phrasing, which is dedicated to training dancers’ versatility and “soft power”. In addition to the work with his own company, he has created pieces for the Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Regensburg Theater, Staatstheater Kassel and the Lithuanian Šeiko Dance Company.
For Maciej Kuźmiński, the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine is one of the most influential events of his life. Since its outbreak in February 2022, he has created five productions that relate to this tragic event in different ways. In addition to Every Minute Motherland (on the programme on Sat 11 May), he has created the solo Pух Опору / Ruch Oporu / Resistance Movement (on the programme on Tue 15 May), a personal confession of Ukrainian dancer Daria Koval. The other three productions have been created in collaboration with students from the international dance conservatories in Arnhem, Linz and Rotterdam.

Dynamic Phrasing comprises a diverse range of activities and exercises that focus on different aspects of dance, including technique, rhythm, spatial awareness and quality of movement. The comprehensive approach, divided into five pillars, helps dancers develop a well-rounded understanding of the various components that contribute to captivating performances.
Unlike many traditional methods, Dynamic Phrasing emphasizes creativity and self-expression, encouraging dancers to trust their instincts and explore new movement possibilities.
The method promotes continuous growth and transformation. Through exercises that focus on reworking, relaxing and refining composition, dancers develop a deeper relationship with their own bodies and the space around them, ultimately becoming more versatile and expressive artists.

The programme block WOLNOŚĆ – presenting Polish-Ukrainian productions Every Minute Motherland and Resistance Movement (including discussions with their creators and performers) and the realization of Maciej Kuźmiński’s dance and movement workshop Dynamic Phrasing – is organized with significant financial support of the Czech-Polish Forum and the Polish Institute in Prague.
